Call me narcissist if you must but this blog is all about ME. I have another blog about my kids, whom I love and adore writing about. But I was Nicole a long time before I was mom and I don't intend to give up being Nicole overnight.

p.s.
You can read all about my kids at Naptime Optional.

Battery Blues

I think I've turned into a superhero. Seems I have this uncanny power this week of sucking batteries dry and then somehow passing on all that battery power to my children. Seriously. All my batteries are dead and my kids have an extreme excess of energy this week!

First my ipod bit the dust.

Next, the rechargeable batteries I use in my camera won't hold a charge. I charge them, put them in my camera, and 3 pictures later they are dead.

And this morning my laptop is having issues. I used to enjoy the truly wireless experience for up to 2 1/2 hours on a fully charged battery. This morning my battery died and my computer shut down (with no warning that I was at the critical battery point) after only a half hour.

Maybe with a little more practice I can hone my super powers so that if I'm going to go around sucking the power from all the batteries in my house that I can at least keep some of that energy for myself. I imagine that if I could it would be like those Comcast commercials where they can clean up the kitchen really fast by rubbing a little "high-speed" on their hands.

So this is a plea to all you super heros out there.....now that I've discovered my super power how do I learn to use it for good? Because otherwise I'm going to end up with a lot of dead electronics and super-hyped up kids.

Oh I wish that I had the answer. That really sucks, especially about the computer. Doesn't it know that you have critical blogging to do?

Man, I'm no help. I've been using Rich's lap top for a month because mine won't charge anymore and it's expensive to have it looked at.

The iPod will probably power up if you leave it plugged in long enough. New batteries for iPods are like $45 on eBay, or like $60 if you ship off to have somebody install it.

I feel your woes though...my laptop only has like a 30 minute charge, if you remember.

Since I will hopefully get a new computer in the not-too-distant future (This one is literally dying, I think the video card is starting to go, so I reason I'm best to upgrade it while this one is still function = sellable) I elected to not replace the battery ($120) but just get a new AC power cord instead ($30).*

Now since I have a charger permanent on my desk and one permanent for on-the-go, I *almost* don't notice that I always have to be tethered to the wall.

*The real reason I got a new AC adaptor is the old one is also dying. I realized if I was not prepared with a new one on standby, the night I was trying to write an important paper or something the old adaptor would die and I'd be left without a computer.

Maybe there's some sort of alien vortex over your home, sucking your batteries dry and making your homemade bread taste yucky.

Try wearing a tin-foil hat and see if that helps. If it doesn't, at least the look will be entertaining.

Hmm, how to channel your superpowers... I must give this some thought.

I have not learned to use my super powers for good yet.....so I may not be the best person to ask for advice. It seems that I can yell so that the entire neighborhood can hear me, but my children can not. Maybe they are the ones with the super powers. Or maybe it's your kids with the super powers. That makes my head hurt, just thinking about it.

If I had a super hero name, and I do, it would be The Zappper. The clapper is my other friend. I'm really good with static electricity. I'm surprised that I haven't toasted more 'tronics, over the years. Good thing most everything has is connected to the ground.

(the following link) These guys tout that they can replace batteries in almost anything. Thought it might be worth mentioning.
